Rangers are likely to be in the market for a host of new signings this summer – and one former Ibrox ace is being linked with a move back to the club.
The Gers need defensive reinforcements having conceded 16 goals in six games against Celtic this season, and manager Pedro Caixinha will be considering his options as he looks to mould his squad.
Many expect Caixinha to target centre backs this summer, but The Scottish Sun claim that he is in fact looking to bring a full back to Ibrox, with a move for Steven Whittaker allegedly being considered.
Whittaker, now 32, joined Rangers from Hibernian back in 2007, and made over 200 appearances for the club with 28 goals to his name, whilst playing a key part in the club’s run to the UEFA Cup final in 2008.

Whittaker moved on to Norwich City in 2012, having chosen to leave Rangers on a free transfer rather than have his contract moved over to the ‘new’ Rangers side in the fourth tier of Scottish football following the club’s liquidation.
The right back has played more than 100 times for Norwich since making his move to Carrow Road, but the Canaries announced last week that the Scotland international won’t have his contract renewed.

Now a free agent, Whittaker is allegedly being considered by Rangers as Caixinha looks to provide some competition for James Tavernier, with question marks over Lee Hodson’s future at Ibrox.
Fans have taken to Twitter to react to the rumours, with many suggesting that they don’t want to see Whittaker return to the club partly due to the manner in which he left, and partly because some simply don’t think he’s good enough at this stage in his career.
Others think Whittaker still has something to offer the Gers should he re-join the club, with few particularly impressed by suggestions that he will be returning to Ibrox this summer.
