West Bromwich Albion are currently staring relegation from the Premier League in the face.
West Brom legend John Wile sat down for an exclusive interview with the Express & Star, and criticised his former club for what he perceives to have been poor planning both on and off the pitch.
The Baggies are currently in all sorts of trouble, and sit firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table, 10 points adrift of safety with just seven games remaining this season.
Alan Pardew was handed the reigns at the Hawthorns in November last year, but he has failed to have the impact that was expected of him, guiding his side to just one Premier League win since then.
Wile, who made 500 league appearances for West Brom, spoke exclusively to the Express & Star, and delivered a damning verdict on his former club’s performance this season, both on and off the pitch:
“The performance on the field seems to have been reflected off it. I don’t think we should think the two aren’t inter-related. From my own experience, one is often dependent on the other and vice-versa. It seems it has been a case of putting all their eggs in one basket last summer. “I’ve been in that position. Supporters will always for their club to go and spend more money. It’s very, very easy to spend money but there have been some poor decisions made on the playing side and some poor decisions made on the business front too. The result should not be a surprise to anyone.”
The Black Country outfit return to action on Saturday with a home game against Burnley, before they play host to Swansea City a week later, and nothing less than a return of six points from those matches will do, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of avoiding the drop.
