Rangers under-18s sealed a third successive CAS Scotland title yesterday when they beat St. Mirren 3-1 – and Gers fans on Twitter are delighted to see the club’s youth lift more silverware to end an incredible season for the Light Blues.
After seeing Steven Gerrard’s first-team lift the Scottish Premiership title for the first time in a decade earlier this month, Davie McCallum’s side made it a league double as goals from Charlie Lindsay, Arron Lyall and Rory Wilson secured the win.
The win also secures the Gers’ place in the UEFA Youth League, although they’ll need to wait and see how the first-team gets on in qualifying for the Champions League before discovering which path they’ll take.
After making their debut in the competition two years ago, the young Gers were unable to take part in the UEFA Youth League last season after UEFA decided against holding it due to fears over Coronavirus.
The Gers were knocked out by Atletico Madrid two years ago having eliminated Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava and were scheduled to face German side Koln last season.
With young stars like Leon King involved after making his first-team debut earlier this season, there are lots of reasons for Gers fans to be excited about for the future.
Fans had barely stopped celebrating the club winning their 55th Premiership title when Davie McCallum’s side made it three in a row at under-18 level yesterday.
There was plenty of congratulations for the young Gers after their title triumph, with many of the squad likely to make up the core of next season’s B team in the Lowland League – with one fan jokingly advising the young Gers to avoid any controversy by steering clear of singing Neil Diamond’s hit ‘Sweet Caroline.’
