Against Belgium it is not about the result, it is about learning ahead of Euro 2012.
Frank Lampard’s injury means Jordan Henderson could be thrown in, and Roy Hodgson will have to decide whether to rest or play his first choice players.
He would like a win to boost the squad’s confidence, but at the same time he does not want to risk injuries to his star men, and frankly the players won’t want to take chances either.
Belgium might wish to contest every 50-50, but some of England’s star men, including the injury prone Steven Gerrard might just think twice.
For Belgium the game will not be meaningless, they have a tough World Cup qualifying group for 2014, where two of the easier sides they face are Scotland and Wales.
Sharing a group also with Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia, they will want to justify their tag as a team of potential stars, and against England test themselves against British opposition.
If England lose, it is not a crisis, it barely matters. All that matters is getting the results to get out of the group stage at Euro 2012 and being able to lift our heads high when the knock-out rounds begin.
