Ian Wright told Premier League Productions (28/02/21 at 12:55 pm) that it’s ‘no secret’ the Arsenal have a set-piece coach following their tactics at Leicester.
During Arsenal’s win at the King Power, Wright was told about how the Arsenal bench were holding up laminate cards before every set-piece situation, including for the equalising goal.
It was seemingly a tactical instruction for the players every time they took a dead ball situation, and clearly, it worked.
Wright shared how he noticed Lacazette play a key role in Arsenal’s equaliser, which involved Leicester’s, Jonny Evans.
On being told that the Arsenal bench were holding laminate cards before every set-piece: “It’s no secret that Arsenal have a set-piece coach,” said Wright. “I think if you look at how that was worked. It was worked brilliantly.
“You can see that Lacazette was there, to clear out space and pin their best header of the ball, which is Jonny Evans.
“Then that is space you see David Luiz definitely waiting for the space to be cleared. The ball has to be pin-point and it is. Fantastic ball in. Then he scores.
“I suppose that’s why you get a set-piece coach to get those things working on the training pitch.”
Well, Mikel Arteta will be hoping he and his coaching staff have a few more of those tricks up their sleeve because they are going to need it.
Whilst it’s a long shot, Arsenal fans will still harbour ambitions of getting into those European places.
There is a serious traffic jam up ahead, but with hardly anyone paying attention to one side of North London, they could sneak up on a few.
