Gary Neville has told Sky Sports News (01/09/21 at 9:15 am) that there is ‘no sadness’ on his part in Daniel James leaving Manchester United for Leeds.

The TV pundit thinks James will ‘love’ playing at Leeds because their counter-attacking style will suit his game.

Given a certain Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford this summer, it only decreases his chances of playing on a regular basis.

Not forgetting that there is already a host of top high-quality talent already at the club.

But now he has joined a club and a manager that wanted to secure his talents two years ago, so from that perspective, he will feel very welcome.

Nonetheless, Neville thinks this is a win-win situation for all parties, as James made the biggest-money move on deadline day.

“I think it’s really good for Dan James,” said Neville. “I think it’s one of those that it’s a win-win. There’s no sadness for me in Dan James leaving. He came to Man United and always did his very best. A massive threat on the counter-attack. But Man United have a lot of players in those areas.

“I think it’s very important for young players to go and play. And Leeds have always wanted him. They wanted him the first time before Man United got him.

“He will suit the way Leeds play. You think the way Leeds play on the counter with such speed. One on ones all over the pitch. He will love it there. The crowd, of course, is a big crowd and one that demands a lot as well.

“I think it’s a good thing from Manchester United that they have got the money they have got. I think it’s a good thing for Dan James that he furthers his career at a good club.”

One big benefit James’ arrival brings to Leeds is that he adds depth to their forward areas.

Marcelo Bielsa is a coach that has always preferred a smaller squad, so at least now, the fans know that they have depth out wide.

Plus, it’s good news for someone like Patrick Bamford, who will no doubt be looking forward to the service he will be able to receive.

He has just earned his maiden England call and he will be hoping his performances this season keeps him there.
