Virgil van Dijk has stated that there is ‘no point’ in Liverpool looking at Manchester City or Chelsea after their defeat to Leicester on Tuesday in the Premier League, as he told Amazon Prime.
Both Chelsea and, and in particular, Manchester City would have been rubbing their hands with glee today.
Not only could this prove to be a significant week in the Premier League title race, but serious damage could be caused after Liverpool suffered a 1-0 loss at the King Power.
Pep Guardiola’s side, who are already six points clear of those from Merseyside, well, they can extend that to nine points by beating Brentford tonight.
Added with that, third-placed Chelsea, who take on the Reds this Sunday, can also leapfrog their rivals by beating Brighton on home soil.
Understandably, this could be a crucial week in the race for the title, as Van Dijk sent this blunt message.
“What can we say?” said Van Dijk. “We are in December. The season is so long and anything can happen still.
“We have seen it now with COVID and injuries within teams. Things can change. They (Man City) have been fortunate that no-one has the cases.
“There’s no point for us to look at them (Man City). Or look at Chelsea. Or look at any other team, at this point of the season.
“And we won’t. We will look at our performance. We have to improve and take us to the next game.”

As things stand, Chelsea are sitting in third place and they are level on points with Liverpool in the table.
But by Sunday afternoon, they may well be six points clear of Klopp’s men, if they beat Brighton in a few hours time and win their heavyweight showdown at the weekend.
As for the current holders, they could be 12 points clear, yes, they would have played a game extra, but the points would still be on the board, and from a psychological standpoint, it would be massive.
