Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has given his opinion on Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.
The pundit was discussing the most shocking transfers in Premier League history, and as you can imagine, Carroll’s infamous deadline day switch to Liverpool came up.
Richards had nothing but praise for Carroll when talking about his ability.
“He was a good player. I played with him for England Under-21s and he was always a special player. He just gave you something different, another option, and you could trust him and he would work hard,” Richards said
“He is horrible to play against because his arms are everywhere. I think he does deliberately try to do people, but not in a nasty way, if that makes sense. When he is up there, he knows how to protect himself. I could always play against him because I had pace; he would always win the first ball, so there was no point trying. He was better than people give him credit for.”
We can only imagine how hard it is to play against Carroll.
He’s a huge physical presence, great in the air and not afraid to go hard into any challenge.
Richards wasn’t a weak defender either, the man had a great combination of pace and strength, and even he struggled to deal with Carroll.
The striker may not be at the same level he was once at, but he’s still a real handful for any defender.
