Universidad de Chile have released a statement insisting that no agreement has been reached to sell Dario Osorio to Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers, via the club’s official website.
It seems that reports suggesting that the so-called ‘new Angel di Maria’ could be confirmed as a Wolves player on deadline day were wide of the mark. Or, at least, a little premature.
According to Chilean publication Red Gol, the Molineux outfit were close to agreeing a £4.5 million deal for Osorio. The talented winger was supposedly due to arrive in January, allowing him to see out the remainder of the league season with a Universidad side sitting just three points off the bottom of the table.
But, according to an official statement provided by the relegation-threatened club, no deal is imminenet. Not yet, anyway.
Wolves will have to wait for Dario Osorio
“Many of the things that (written) are false,” the statement says.
“Until now, neither Dario Osorio nor any Club player has been sold. The club is not close to finalising the sale of players and has not evaluated, to date, any offers. No player will leave for the rest of the season.”
Wolves, then, will have to wait until the winter window opens in 2023 if they are serious about securing the services of an 18-year-old whizzkid who already has one cap for the Chile national team.
Reporter Juan Cristobal Guarello believes that, if and when Osorio does depart, he will be at the centre of ‘the largest transsfer in Chilean football for more than a decade’.
“Dario Osorio is good. Really good,” Guarello explains.
“He carries the ball well. He knows how to turn, he has power, technique and strikes hits the ball in an extraordinary way. With the right support and work he can get his full potential.”
