Peter Crouch has suggested that he cannot see Steven Gerrard being Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager in the Daily Mail.

Tottenham have been linked with the Glasgow Rangers boss, following his impressive achievements at Ibrox.

Gerrard has helped Rangers end Celtic’s spell of dominance and has led them to an unbeaten season this time around.

There is an expectation that Gerrard will end up in the Premier League one day, but Crouch doesn’t believe that a move to Tottenham will appeal to the 40-year-old manager.

“Steven’s stock is rising and the way he has overseen the renaissance of Rangers is outstanding,” Crouch said.

“I hear people talking about the strength of the Scottish League and questioning the quality but what I would argue is this: if it was so easy, why aren’t teams going unbeaten every year?

“He is going to be an outstanding manager and if I was running Tottenham, I would absolutely be interested in a man of his calibre.

“But could you see Steven Gerrard managing anyone in the Premier League other than Liverpool? No. Nor can I.

“When Steven returns to England, it will be to take over from Jurgen Klopp. I really don’t see it any other way.”

Whether Tottenham are genuinely interested in bringing in Gerrard remains to be seen.

The appeal of appointing a rookie manager who is showing so much promise is understandable.

However, Gerrard is still relatively inexperienced and with so many issues emerging at Tottenham, it would be a tough job for him to take.

Gerrard has previously only suggested that he intends to stay at Rangers, with his latest comments to Sky Sports hitting that he was already planning for next season at Ibrox.
