Steve McManaman has poured oil onto the flames of Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham, whilst speaking to Premier League Productions during their defeat to Leicester.

The former England midfielder questioned how Spurs will keep their star man happy and warned he will consider his future after another defeat where Jose Mourinho’s style of play was on the top of the critics’ list.

Spurs have only suffered three defeats this season, which isn’t bad going given how the season has gone for everyone, but their recent losses – Liverpool and Leicester – would have hit them hard.

McManaman pointed out how Kane is ‘one of the greatest’ forwards currently going but he’s then playing in a Tottenham team where ‘no-one’s passing him the ball’.

“If you are Harry Kane,” said McManaman. “And I’m thinking this guy is possibly one of the greatest forwards around, at the minute.

“We are talking about Benzema, Lewandowski, maybe Aguero. But they are into their 30’s. You are talking about this fella. How can Tottenham keep him happy playing like this?

“If they don’t win a trophy this year playing like this then Harry Kane might be thinking I have to ply my trade elsewhere because he’s not getting a sniff of the ball. No-one is passing him the ball.”

Tottenham played the fancy football under Mauricio Pochettino, but it resulted in no trophies, so the argument about the style of play should be shut down in that regard.

This is about the North London club getting over the line and having that aggressive nature to their game, which then brings out that winning mentality – they clearly don’t have that, at the minute.

Mourinho is designed to bring that out of them and his career is proof that he can do it. He may need more than one season, but Spurs fans won’t care one jot if they win a trophy playing so-called defensive and boring football.
