Alan Shearer stated that ‘no-one wants’ to be the Premier League’s highest goalscorer away from home after being told that Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, has broken that record.
On Wednesday night, Spurs recorded a 2-0 win over Brighton, with Kane getting on the scoresheet and netting his 95th league goal on the road, as Shearer joked ‘I know what record he wants’, as he told Premier League Productions (16/03/22 at 10:55 pm).
It was Wayne Rooney’s record that Kane surpassed, but that wasn’t the only record broken at the Amex Stadium.
Kane is also the fifth highest goalscorer since 1992, surpassing Frank Lampard’s tally of 177 from his days at West Ham United, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Nonetheless, this is what Shearer made of Kane’s goal yesterday and his brilliant reaction to being told about the away record he has surpassed.
“There is no mistaking Tottenham’s second goal from Harry Kane,” said Shearer. “It was a very tight decision, we saw him miss one in the first half with his left foot.
“The keeper has had a look to see where he is and tried to get his angle right. But Harry’s all over that. He just has a little glance right at the end and he knows exactly where he is and exactly where he wants to put it. Then hits it with perfection into the corner. Superb.
On Kane breaking Rooney’s away record: “Who is interested in away records? No one wants that.
On how many away goals he got: “I don’t remember. Not as many as he did. I know what record he wants.”

All these individual records are all great for the England captain and he is closing in on Shearer’s 260.
But, at the end of the day, what matters most is how many trophies he can win during his career.
Shearer won the Premier League title in Blackburn colours, before ripping it up for his boyhood club at St James’ Park.
After Tottenham’s last trophy-laden coach, Jose Mourinho, was sacked a week before a final, Kane will be hoping the man in the current dugout is provided with a chance to shine.
