Sheffield United forward Oli McBurnie had little sympathy for Tottenham Hotspur after the harshest of VAR calls denied Harry Kane a goal during Thursday night’s clash at Bramall Lane, speaking to the Blades’ YouTube page.

Whenever a Jose Mourinho team collapses in such dramatic fashion, the permanently glowering gaffer usually has some sort of excuse up his sleeve to distract from the on-pitch disaster.

And it is fair to say Mourinho received the most gift-wrapped of gripes as Spurs’ Champions League ambitious suffered a major hit with a 3-1 defeat in the Steel City.

Seconds after the London giants fell behind to Sander Berge’s drilled opener, captain Kane went down the other end and screwed home an equaliser – only for the goal to be ruled out as the ball brushed the arm of an unwitting Lucas Moura in the build up.

The law is most certainly an ass. Or, at least, the current handball legislations are.

But, as McBurnie was keen to point out after brilliant Blades result, Sheffield United are no stranger to controversial VAR calls.

“It’s a harsh one,” said the Scotland international, who scored Sheffield United’s third late on.

“(But) we’ve had plenty go against us this season. No one can argue that we don’t deserve one.”

As Blades fans will happily remind you, Chris Wilder’s side had a goal of their own chalked off in controversial circumstances in November’s reverse fixture.

And that is without mentioning the Goal Line Technology blunder which robbed Sheffield United of two points against Aston Villa a fortnight ago.
