Liverpool face Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

There will be an all English tie in the Champions League quarter finals when Liverpool take on Manchester City.

It was the exact draw Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum said he wanted to avoid.

Speaking to ESPN ahead of the draw, Wijnaldum was asked about the possibility of getting drawn against City.

He responded: “No, not now, I don’t want to play an English team now.

“To be fair, we played Manchester City two times and I think the first game we had a red card so that was a difficult game.

“But the second game at home, it was a good game for us. I also think the supporters enjoyed it so even if we play Man City, I think we have two good games.”

Liverpool have had mixed results against City this season, losing 5-0 and winning 4-3.

The first leg of the two ties takes place at Anfield, which gives Liverpool the chance to lay down a marker early.

Both Liverpool and City won their last 16 match-ups at a canter, and they were the two teams the rest of Europe wanted to avoid.

Now they play each other and that makes it a lot better for the other sides remaining in the competition, but at least there is one English team guaranteed a semi-final place.
