Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left absolutely baffled by Jose Mourinho’s decision to omit Joe Rodon from their Europa League squad.
Rodon was signed too late to feature in Tottenham’s group stage matches in the European competition, but there was widespread anticipation that he would be added to their squad for the knockouts.
However, it now seems that Rodon will not be playing for Tottenham in Europe at all this season.
Football London have reported how Mourinho confirmed that he decided against adding Rodon to Tottenham’s European squad list yesterday.
Spurs now fans feel that the Portuguese boss has made a poor decision.
It has to be said that the decision does come a major surprise.
Mourinho has previously spoken about how he has been left frustrated that he can’t play Rodon in Europe, and the 23-year-old does seem to be a defender who he trusts.
Rodon has featured ahead of the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez, who are both in Tottenham’s squad, in Premier League games recently.
But it seems that Spurs felt that dropping a player from their squad would have been too problematic.
And Rodon will have to wait until next season to make his European bow for Tottenham now, providing Mourinho’s side qualify.
