Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Willy Boly has said that he would ‘never’ join Arsenal during an Instagram Q&A session with BeIN Sports.
While Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore, Ruben Neves and now Pedro Neto dominate the gossip columns on an almost daily basis, one Wolves player who has somehow avoided speculation is their man-mountain of a centre-back.
With his fearsome 6ft 5ins frame, superb aerial ability and immense positioning, Boly is one of the Premier League’s finest defenders these days, providing the platform for a Wolves side bidding to end the season in the Champions League places.
In truth, Arsenal can only dream of a centre-back as talented and consistent as the 29-year-old Frenchman.
The error-prone Gunners were linked with a move for Boly back in October, via the Sun. And, with just 12 months left on his contract, Wolves fans could be forgiven for getting a little nervous.
But fear not. The Emirates holds no appeal for a man who has played the best football of his career in Old Gold.
“No, never,” said the former Porto stopper when asked if a move to north London would appeal, ahead of Wolves’ Premier League clash with Arsenal this weekend.
“Arsenal is a very good team – everybody can see that. But, on paper, (Wolves) are not afraid of Arsenal. If Arsenal are coming here on a Saturday, I don’t think Arsenal are thinking they are going to win easily.
“I don’t have to go to Arsenal.”
Wolves paid just £10 million to sign Boly on a permanent basis in the summer of 2018 (Express and Star).
And with Arsenal facing up to the challenge of rebuilding an underachieving side on a vastly reduced budget, the Molineux favourite is probably out of their financial reach these days anyway.
