Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder this summer, and one man they’ve been consistently linked with is Arthur Melo.
The Gunners were on the verge of bringing the Brazilian to the club in January, but for one reason or another, a deal never came to fruition.
Sadly for Arthur, it seems as though his chance to head to Arsenal has been and gone, as Fabrizio Romano claims, writing for CaughtOffside, that the ‘sensational’ midfielder is no longer a priority target for the north London club.
What’s the story?
Romano cleared up Arsenal’s stance on Arthur Melo.
“The Gunners are considering several candidates because a new midfielder will arrive in the summer, there is no doubt, but who it will be will hinge on whether or not the club can qualify for the Champions League,” Romano wrote.
“Arthur Melo has been an option for months but is no longer the priority, unlike in January; Douglas Luiz can leave Aston Villa and there has been talk of interest from Arsenal, but there is no negotiation in progress yet.”
Could backfire
Arsenal have seemingly gone cold on the ‘sensational’ midfielder, and that’s a stance that could backfire very easily.
The midfielder is an incredibly talented footballer. After all, you don’t play for Barcelona and Juventus unless you have something about you.
Yes, he’s had a tough time as of late, but he’s still a majestic player who would walk into most teams’ midfield.
Arsenal could live to regret not signing Arthur, but, of course, that all hinges on who they do sign, and with Youri Tielemans being strongly linked, the Gunners may actually have a better option in the pipeline.
