Tim Sherwood and Ian Wright have disagreed over Tottenham Hotspur fans and Jose Mourinho on the Kelly and Wrighty Show.

Tottenham currently lead the way in the Premier League table, but Sherwood has suggested that Spurs fans would be putting pressure on Mourinho if they were in the ground.

Spurs often look to keep men behind the ball, before breaking in numbers.

The style isn’t always the most entertaining to watch, and Sherwood thinks that Tottenham fans would struggle to accept it if they were in the grounds.

“I think he’s benefitted from not having fans in the stadium,” the ex-Spurs manager said.

“Because if he had people in the stands they’d put extra pressure on him for the way he’s playing.

“Now if I’m Jose Mourinho I’m not changing the way I’m playing either, I have a blue print of winning 20 major trophies, not by opening the pitch up and being entertaining.”

However Wright interjected, questioning: “Are you saying Tottenham fans right now would be unhappy with what they’re seeing?”

“Absolutely,” Sherwood responded.

“No, I don’t think they would.”

“They have to win a trophy. If at the end of the season they won nothing, Tottenham fans will be saying ‘that’s a load of cr*p’, that’s not good enough, we don’t need that’,” Sherwood added. “If they win a trophy they will say ‘brilliant, Jose is the Messiah.”

The criticism of Mourinho’s style may actually be slightly harsh, as Tottenham have played with attacking intent at times this season.

Spurs are one of the top scoring teams in the division and their display against Manchester United was absolutely brilliant.

Mourinho has set up defensively against Manchester City more recently, but the Portuguese boss does seem to have given his team more offensive licence this season.

It will be interesting to see how Mourinho sets his side up this weekend, as Spurs are set to take on Chelsea in what looks like a huge game for both sides.
