Alasdair Gold has ruled out the possibility of Hugo Lloris leaving Tottenham Hotspur this month or in the summer on the Last Word on Spurs Podcast.
Lloris has been tentatively linked with a move away from Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG side cited as a potential destination for him in EuroSport.
However, Gold insists that Jose Mourinho has no intention of losing Lloris any time soon.
“This is where I say no and he suddenly goes tomorrow, but at the moment, everyone is delighted with Hugo,” he said, when asked if Spurs fans should be worried about Lloris’s departure.
“I think he’s been in the best form he’s been in over the last six months or so for Spurs.
“I think working with a new goalkeeping coach has reinvigorated him. Taking the kicking out the game, that obviously was a little bit of an issue, and he hasn’t had to do that.
“Mourinho, honestly, doesn’t stop going on about him. I don’t think there’s any chance of Spurs or Mourinho wanting to lose him.
“Poch and Lloris have a very special relationship, he called each other friends, but I think that’s one for the future when Lloris, perhaps, wants to go to France.
“I’d be stunned if you saw that this window or in the summer.”
Lloris has indeed been a reliable figure in Tottenham’s goal this season, and he continues to impress under Mourinho.
There was a feeling that the experienced goalkeeper, who joined Spurs for £12 million in 2012 (Independent), had a tendency to make high profile errors under Pochettino, but he has barely put a foot wrong since the Portuguese boss took charge.
The arrival of Joe Hart only seems to have helped Lloris to become even sharper, with the Tottenham captain currently enjoying one of the best spells of his career.
Spurs have the best defensive record in the entire Premier League this term, and they owe a huge amount to Lloris’s form for that.
