Steven Gerrard has stated that he was told Bodymoor Heath had ‘first-class facilities’, as he told VillaTV.

The new Aston Villa boss is getting used to his new surroundings and he stated that there are ‘no excuses’ for his players given what they have at their disposal.

It has been a few days since Gerrard has started work at the club, after leaving Rangers for the former European champions last week.

It’s a big move for the legendary midfielder and the biggest test of his managerial career to date.

And he was asked to share his thoughts on Villa’s training facilities after seeing it up close and personnel for the first time.

“Obviously, I had seen pictures of the building, inside and out,” said Gerrard. “A lot of people had spoken to me about it.

“I was told it was a first-class facility that more money had been spent to improve it again.

“There are certainly no excuses in this building. The resources, the structure and the staff.

“The amount of support the players have got, for me, it’s got to be a no-excuse culture or no blame culture because they have really good people here. Good staff. Every area is covered with high-class elite facilities.”

First up for Gerrard is a home tie against Brighton, who have had a strong start to the season, but in recent weeks, they have hit a bit of a patch.

Villa are on a run of five defeats on the bounce and they need that much-needed morale-boosting win.

Gerrard entering the building has seemingly provided the whole club with that added lift.

But it’s now up to the Villa players to do the business on Saturday and push the club up the table.
