Kenny Miller has claimed that there is ‘no doubt’ there are potential suitors for Rangers defender, Calvin Bassey, who is attracting interest from Aston Villa this summer, as he told Sky Sports News (06/07/22 at 12:20 pm).
There are two-years remaining on Bassey’s contract and Miller made it clear that Rangers need to be ‘keeping’ players of the 22-year-old’s ilk in Glasgow.
Even before the summer transfer window could open, Villa had new boys Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara through their doors, but it has gone quiet since then.

Bassey is someone who is seemingly on Villa’s radar, with former Gers boss, Steven Gerrard, keen to bulk up his defence ahead of his European chase next season.
Nonetheless, when talking about Rangers’ summer transfer window, this is what Miller had to say about Bassey’s future at Ibrox.
“Even Calvin Bassey, with two-years left on his contract, it’s one where his performances during the second half of last season were so strong,” said Miller.
“Especially in that Europa League that there is no doubt there will be potential suitors for Calvin, so it’s about keeping these guys, then adding to them is really key for Rangers.”

WILL BASSEY JOIN ASTON VILLA?
Gerrard needs more cover on the left-side of defence, with Lucas Digne his only left-back at the club, but he has enough central defenders for next season.
So, from that perspective, if Bassey were to join, then he would compete with Digne for a starting spot rather than any of the centre-backs.
It also depends on how much Rangers would want for the player and whether Villa would be willing to put so much money on the table for the versatile defender who ended the season so well for Gio van Bronckhorst’s side.
In truth, he isn’t a priority signing for Villa and isn’t one that is needed, so from that perspective, it will be music to Rangers fans’ ears.
There’s no doubt he is needed more at Ibrox than at Villa Park, so for his own development, he is probably best staying put for now.
