Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has been discussing Liverpool and their midfield transfer options.
The Reds have gotten off to a terrible start in the Premier League this season, and it’s fair to say that the finger has been pointed at the Merseyside club’s midfield as a problem area.
To be honest, it’s not hard to understand why. A 36-year-old James Milner and a 19-year-old Harvey Elliott had to start against Manchester United this week, and it’s fair to say that Jurgen Klopp’s side could do with some reinforcements.
However, according to Jones, Liverpool’s midfield targets aren’t available, with the reporter stating that Jude Bellingham is the one player they really want, claiming that the Reds are being patient and waiting for his situation to change.
What’s been said?
Jones shared what he knows about Liverpool and Bellingham.
“The players that Liverpool would look to sign in that position aren’t really available. Jude Bellingham would be the one they really want in this area of the field. There’s no doubt that they are waiting for Bellingham’s situation to open up and that is not happening at the moment and because of that, Jurgen Klopp is going to be patient and wait for that to happen unless he’s presented with something that’s too good to turn down in the final days of the window,” Jones said.
Worth the wait
Liverpool probably won’t make a midfield addition this summer as they wait for Bellingham to become available, but the England international should be worth the wait.
At the age of just 19, Bellingham’s ceiling is sky-high and under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp he could become a superstar.
Liverpool aren’t the type of team to sign players for the sake of it, and while their midfield may be weaker this season, long-term planning has always been the name of the game for the Reds.
The ‘brilliant‘ teenager may well inject a new life into this Liverpool midfield next summer.
