Andy Cole has claimed that Wayne Rooney would be ‘open’ to the Everton manager’s job if the opportunity arose, as he told Sky Sports.
The former Premier League striker claimed that the boyhood Everton fan is working ‘miracles’ in Derby County’s dugout.
The East Midlands outfit are in dire straits from being put into administration, then having 21 points deducted and still not being able to sign any players.
Despite all of that chaotic mess, Rooney has still managed to guide the Rams to four wins from their last six matches and move them away from the foot of the table.
Given that Everton is a club Rooney grew up supporting, Cole suggested it might just prove to be an opportunity he can’t turn down.
“It’s his boyhood club as well,” said Cole. “Anything is possible in football nowadays.
“If you look at what he is doing at Derby, he is working miracles. I wouldn’t even call it a shoestring budget because it’s not even that. The results he is getting, whatever he is doing, his backroom staff, they are all buying into it.
“If he did have the opportunity, then there is no doubt that he would be open to it as well.”

In terms of his character and understanding of the club, if Everton were to hand Rooney the keys, then it would lift the mood around the place.
Going from having an ex-Liverpool manager in the dugout to a boyhood Toffee would be some turnaround.
But given the current situation Derby find themselves in, it would be pretty difficult to see Rooney walk away from the club in their current state.
Rooney doesn’t seem the type of character to do such a thing, even if it is obvious that he would be progressing his career by moving from Derby to Everton.
