Anthony Gordon to Tottenham Hotspur has come out of nowhere today.

It isn’t official – obviously – but Sky Sports have reported that Spurs want him and Everton teammate in a double deal this summer.

At 21, Gordon is one of the most exciting young English footballers in the Premier League.

And even Carlo Ancelotti – who won the Champions League with Real Madrid again last month – is a big fan of the player.

Gordon rose to prominence at Goodison Park under the Italian manager, who quit the Toffees last summer to re-join Real.

Speaking to Everton’s official website, Ancelotti said of the prodigious young talent in 2020.

He said: “He is doing really well and is ready to play for Everton, no doubt. He improved in the past six months and how he is playing [in training and games] gives me a lot of confidence and trust in him.

“He is a player with personality. You can find a lot of players with quality, but you have to show strong personality. In football, you need players with personality and character.”

Quality isn’t enough to succeed and flourish consistency in any walk of life.

You also need the ‘personality’ as Ancelotti touched on and no doubt Tottenham manager Antonio Conte will be looking for that.

If you don’t have it upstairs then Conte will simply not bother with you.

And going by Ancelotti’s comments, well the youngster clearly has the mindset and the quality to make himself a perfect player for the Spurs boss.
