Speaking on his podcast, Robbie Fowler has claimed that Tottenham striker Harry Kane will have been very annoyed with not playing against San Marino last week.
England waltzed past San Marino in World Cup qualifying, putting five past them en route to the easiest three points they could ever ask for, and while Kane is bound to have been satisfied seeing his team win, Fower reckons he’ll have been annoyed to not get on due to the fact he’s chasing Wayne Rooney’s goal record.
“Is someone like Harry Kane annoyed against a San Marino side, who let’s be frank, are minnows of international football. You’d expect him to fill his boots against San Marino. You played that position, would you be annoyed if you were Harry Kane, not being unleashed?” Fowler’s co-host asked.
“I was annoyed not playing all the time, and that’s why I never enjoyed my England career.
“I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there. He’s got those records in his sights and of course he wants to play every single time. There’s no doubt about it, he won’t come out and say I’m disappointed, because it means a lot to him to be playing for England, but he’ll be desperate to score goals against the so-called weaker nations, he’ll be desperate to score goals because he wants the record.”

To be fair, Fowler may be right.
Kane is a consummate professional, so he’s not going to come out and say it, but we know that this is a man obsessed with records and individual accolades.
Kane once swore on his daughter’s life that he’d touched the ball in order to gain a goal in the Golden Boot race, so it’s fair to assume he’ll have been annoyed after being denied the chance to stat pad against San Marino.
It looks as though Kane may have to break Rooney’s record the hard way.
