Speaking on his podcast, Glenn Hoddle has given his verdict on Chris Wilder’s controversial departure from Sheffield United this week.
The former Blades gaffer left the club over the weekend, and plenty has been said about the former Northampton boss’ departure.
Hoddle has now given his view on the situation, and it’s clear to see he thinks the Yorkshire club have made something of a mistake, claiming that he’d be the best man for the job when it comes to getting them promoted next season.
“He’s done a fantastic job, but it’s not just as plain or as simple as ‘why have they sacked him? Who are they going to bring in?’ They’d have to bring Houdini back to life to get them out of the trouble and stay up.
“No one is going to go in there and get them out of trouble. Whoever goes in there, they’re not going to get out of trouble, so they need to start planning for next year, who’s going to have a better chance of bringing them up next year? Chris Wilder. No doubt about it.”

It’s hard to disagree with Hoddle’s view on this matter.
Wilder brought the Blades from League One to the Premier League without really reshaping the squad all that much, so after two years of Premier League-level spending, you’d have to imagine a spell in the Championship would have been a walk in the park for him.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite worked out like that, and he’s left his boyhood club.
One thing is for sure, whichever team hires Wilder next is getting a top-class manager.
