Jamie Carragher has told The Football Show that Arsenal forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is simply too good for the Gunners.

Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal is currently very uncertain, with the striker’s contract due to expire in just over a year.

Mikel Arteta is believed to be desperate to keep the forward, but that could be problematic.

If Arsenal don’t sell Aubameyang this summer they could lose him on a free transfer in a year’s time, which would cost the club millions.

But Carragher suggests that may well be the best option for Arsenal right now, if they really want to challenge for a Champions League spot.

“At this stage there’s no doubt about it, Aubameyang is too good for Arsenal,” Carragher said.

“You’re desperate to keep him because you’re actually thinking you want to build around this player, and if he goes you’re almost thinking that you have to start again.

“It’s alright saying if he doesn’t want to be here let him go, but it’s not easy when you have a player of such star quality and is nailed on to be there or thereabouts in the race for the golden boot.

“I’d keep Aubameyang and try and bring players in around him, and maybe try and convince him to stay over the next 12 months.”

If Arsenal are to sell Aubameyang it is claimed by the Daily Express that the Gunners would want £50 million.

Even with that sort of money Arsenal would be hard pressed to find a replacement for Aubameyang, as he has scored so frequently for them ever since his arrival.
