If you were Brendan Rodgers and had to pick the Reds’ best starting XI right now…
It has been a tough few months for Liverpool supporters – and their manager.
Such has been the form of some of his players, Brendan Rodgers would be hard pressed to pick his best starting XI right now.
The Reds boss has made plenty of mistakes of his own, however, and is ultimately at the very least partially responsible for all of his summer signings.
So, if Rodgers had to put everything aside and pick his best current line-up, who would make the cut?
In goal, Simon Mignolet has been poor this season but would still be preferred to back-up option Brad Jones. And, despite their errors, Alberto Moreno, Martin Skrtel and Javier Manquillo would all partner Kolo Toure at the back. The alternatives of Glen Johnson and Dejan Lovren wouldn’t deserve a place in their stead.
Up front, Mario Balotelli doesn’t even come into the reckoning, with Rickie Lambert starting.
Midfield is the hardest area to choose, however, but Philippe Coutinho has not played as well as Adam Lallana this term, while Joe Allen has had some terrible games for the side. Emre Can is unlucky to miss out but Jordan Henderson, regardless of his form, is Liverpool’s engine – and the skipper would start in the no.10 role.
Liverpool best XI?
Simon Mignolet, Alberto Moreno, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure, Javier Manquillo, Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert.
