Italian newspaper Il Mattino reported this week Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have had bids rejected by Napoli for Polish winger Piotr Zielinski.

Zielinski netted five goals and provided seven assists this past season, and at just 23 he is a player who has plenty of potential to improve further.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, if it comes down to a straight choice between the two, the indications are that he would choose Liverpool every time.

Zielinski came close to a move to Liverpool a year ago, but the Reds could not agree a fee to bring him to Anfield.

During this pursuit, Zielinski made clear that he was desperate for a move to Liverpool.

He raved about the possibility of linking up with Coutinho, quoted by the Liverpool Echo: “It would be great to play alongside Coutinho. I am sure we could be a good duo on the pitch. We’ll see what will happen.”

The Liverpool Echo also quoted him discussing Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, commenting: “Klopp is one of the best managers around and it would certainly be an honour to work with him.”

Then there were pictures of the winger posing wearing a Liverpool shirt last summer for Poland’s Canal+ which emerged.

Tottenham may be able to outbid Liverpool and strike a better deal with Napoli, but if it comes down to a straight choice between the two clubs, it is very likely he would choose the Reds.

Having missed out on them once, he could regret choosing another Premier League team instead.
