Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher has labelled West Brom a ‘massive club’ but insists he has not held talks with the Championship strugglers regarding replacing Steve Bruce at the Hawthorns, speaking to Plymouth Live.
Just ten months ago, Ryan Lowe was lured away from Home Park by second-tier Preston North End following an impressive start to the season. Now, with another second-tier club casting admiring glances over the man giving out instructions from the Plymouth dugout, is history about to repeat itself?
Schumacher, assistant-turned-head-coach, has the Pilgrims flying high at the top of the League One table. They are four points clear, and have 11 wins from 14 games to show for their efforts.

And with West Brom performing a full 180 – eyeing up the most exciting coaching talent in the EFL after sacking the supposedly tried-and-tested 61-year-old Bruce – The Sun say that Schumacher has joined the likes of Leam Richardson and Russell Martin on the Baggies’ radar.
Who will replace Steve Bruce as West Brom manager?
“I have seen all of the stuff and I have had loads of people texting me and whatever,” the Liverpool-born 38-year-old admits. “But there has been no contact from my side.
“If there has been an interest from West Brom, I think that’s great. Because that shows we are doing something well here. You wouldn’t get spoken about if you were sitting down the bottom of the league or mid-table.
“It just shows the good job that everyone is doing – not just me – that we are getting recognised. And West Brom is a massive club. But there has been no contact. And as far as I’m concerned there’s probably nothing in it.”
West Brom appear no closer to finding Bruce’s successor. Richardson, Martin and Millwall boss Gary Rowett have all distanced themselves from the speculation in recent days. Sean Dyche is holding out for a Premier League job.
The Baggies, beaten 2-0 at home by Bristol City on Tuesday, have also considered Michael Carrick. The former England international is likely to take over at Middlesbrough instead.
