West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after finding out what Jose Mourinho has said about them before Sunday’s clash with Tottenham.
Speaking on Tottenham’s YouTube channel, the former Chelsea boss said: “They are doing very well. I believe that in the end of the season their position and our position, they are not going to be the same as where we are now.
“They have one week to prepare, one week to rest, less injuries and fatigue. It gives them a much better chance.”
It’s clear that the Portuguese coach doesn’t have much faith in West Ham’s ability to sustain their brilliant run of results.
We’re not even sure why the 58-year-old thinks this. Since December 11th, the Irons have lost just two Premier League games out of 13.
To us, that shows consistency, and suggests that the east Londoners do have what it takes to go the distance this season.
In saying this, Mourinho – who earns £15 million-a-year (£288,000-a-week) – is only making a rod for his own back ahead of Sunday’s London derby.
In our view, as far as David Moyes will be concerned, that’s his team talk sorted for Sunday afternoon – the West Ham players will surely want to make him eat his words.
A manager of Mourinho’s experience should know better than to poke the hornets’ nest like this – there’s a high chance his words could come back to bite.
If anything, the former Real Madrid boss should be respectful of the Hammers.
They are currently sat six points above Tottenham in fifth, while they also showed fight to battle back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Spurs earlier this season.
