Rio Ferdinand has said on Rio Ferdinand Presents LIVE that Gareth Bale will have to take a pay-cut if he is to join Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent contract.
Bale returned to Tottenham on loan from Spanish and European giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2020.
The Wales international winger earns £600,000 per week as salary, while his Spurs teammate and England international striker Harry Kane is on £200,000 per week, according to Spotrac.com.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand does not think that Spurs will be afford to pay Bale’s salary, adding that the North London club will not pay him more than what they give to Kane.
Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents LIVE when asked if Bale will sign join Spurs on a permanent contract in the summer of 2021: “It depends where they finish. If they finish in the Champions League, I think there is a chance, but I think he will have to take a big reduction in wages.
“Whether he’s willing to do that or not, it remains to be seen, but he will have to take a reduction in wages to go there because right now whether they can sign him on more money than Harry Kane, no chance.”

Future decision can wait
It is now the business end of the season, and Bale is starting to get into form and establish himself in the Tottenham first team.
The Wales international winger will play his role in Spurs’ quest to finish in the top four of the Premier League table and win the Europa League this season.
Much will depend on what Madrid will want to do regarding Bale at the end of the season. For now, Spurs and the winger should concentrate on ending the campaign strongly.
