Micah Richards shared on BBC’s Final Score about how Chris Sutton previously said that Steven Gerrard had ‘no chance’ at Rangers.

The former England defender thinks Gerrard ‘needs so much credit’ for the work he has done at Rangers, as he is now edging ever closer to stopping ten-in-a-row.

The Gers are 19 points clear of their rivals following their 1-0 win on Saturday and it’s clearly just a matter of time before Gerrard is winning his first league title in his career.

Even though Celtic have stagnated and struggled this season, Richards thinks Gerrard still deserves credit for the work he has done.

“He needs so much credit,” said Richards. “I remember having a conversation with Chris Sutton and he was saying ‘there is no chance’.

“I remember hearing an argument saying ‘he [Gerrard] goes up there and Celtic are going to win the league’. I said he has done a great job. This season he has done an exceptional job.

“I think if he goes onto win the league it will just go to show how much of a good job he has done. Celtic haven’t been great, but you still have to win.”

Whilst Rangers have a significant gap at the top, Gerrard will ensure his robust and free-scoring team keep their feet on the ground.

The previous seasons have been troublesome for those at Ibrox, but for the supporters they will feel it’s worthwhile given how they are playing this term.

And whilst Gerrard will always have legendary status at Liverpool, he is building one at Rangers too and it will only grow when he adds trophies to their cabinet.
