Leeds youngster Ryan Edmondson departed the club on loan for Fleetwood for the season. However, the striker could already be set to return to Elland Road after a cryptic message on Instagram.

The 20-year-old posted on his official account a wordless image of him in training for Leeds. The former York City talent was an unused substitute in Fleetwood’s 0-0 draw against Morcombe over the weekend.

Edmondson has had three loan spells away from Leeds since joining in 2018, and the youngster is yet to find his feet in the senior game, with the attacker scoring just five goals at a professional level.

Indeed, his lack of goals could hint that Edmondson is not quite ready to compete at senior level, and his recent Instagram post has got Leeds fans theorising that a recall to Elland Road is on the cards in January.

The forward has only scored twice this season for Fleetwood, with both goals coming in the EFL Trophy for the League One side. And it is likely that if Edmondson returns to Leeds, the 20-year-old will again go out on loan.

It will be a shame for Edmondson, though, given that he is a player who clearly has talent. However, Leeds fans believe that another step down in the English football pyramid will be beneficial for the youngster.

Whether or not Edmondson has a future at Leeds is a question that will likely be addressed in the summer. And as for fans on social media, they agree that the striker should be sent out on loan to another club in England, ideally in League Two or the National League.

Here’s what some Leeds fans had to say on Edmondson’s future heading into 2022 on Twitter…
