Jamie Carragher debunked Tony Bellew’s claim that Everton midfielder Allan would get into Liverpool’s XI, as he told Ladsbible TV.

Ahead of the new Premier League season, Bellew and Carragher sat down to discuss all things, Everton and Liverpool.

One of the statements that were put on the table was that no Everton player would get into this current Liverpool side.

Well, former cruiserweight champion and boyhood Everton fan, Bellew, threw Allan’s name forward and Carragher was having none of it.

“Allan is getting in,” said Bellew. “You have lost Gini Wijnaldum. Allan is getting in. His legs all over the park.”

Carragher responded: “No chance, no chance! Allan, he can’t run!”

Bellew added: “He’s got more legs.” to which Carragher asked, “Than who?”

Bellew then asked: “What was his nickname at Napoli?” Carragher responded by saying: “I haven’t got a clue. Never heard of him.”

Bellew then told him: “Wheels. That was his nickname. I am telling you. Such an underrated player.”

Carragher then added: “Flat tyre it should be. He isn’t better than Fabinho. He’s not. Tony, I thought you were going to talk about the left-back. Fabinho is the best in the league in that position.”

Allan was purchased by the now-departed Carlo Ancelotti last summer when Everton paid Napoli £21 million for his services (BBC Sport).

It perhaps showed the pull Ancelotti had that he could attract a player of Allan’s qualities to Merseyside.

Even though Everton endured an abject campaign last time out, Allan was still one of their top performers.

But with proven midfield players like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, as the players Allan would compete with, it’s hard to see him get ahead of those two any time soon.
