Jamie Carragher has written on Twitter that Arsenal central defender Ben White will not play for England at the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar if Gunners manager Mikel Arteta continues to play him at right-back.

The Sky Sports pundit has said that if Arsenal star White continues to play at right-back in the coming weeks, then England head coach Gareth Southgate will not pick him for his squad for Qatar.

The £93,000-a-week (SalarySport) former Leeds United loanee is not part of the current England squad for the UEFA Nations League.

Arsenal manager Arteta has been playing France international William Saliba and Brazilian star Gabriel in central defence so far this season.

White is a centre-back by trade, but the 24-year-old is playing at right-back at the moment for Arsenal.

Disappointing ahead?

In our opinion, Arsenal central defender Ben White could miss out on a place in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Southgate does have enough options in central defence and at right-back.

And White has played only four times for England.

If the defender is not playing in his natural position, then we do not think that Southgate will pick him.

For White to be part of the Three Lions’ squad in Qatar, we think that he has to play in central defence and produce outstanding performances in the coming weeks.
