‘No chance’: £11m Spurs star reacts to what he’s hearing about Gareth Bale

Joe Rodon has said there is ‘no chance’ of former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Gareth Bale retiring from football this summer.

Bale spent the 2020-21 campaign back at Spurs on loan from Real Madrid.

But despite netting 16 goals in all competitions for Tottenham, it was viewed as quite a mixed season for the 31-year-old.

ABC in Spain reported that the Wales international would be hanging up his boots after Wales’ European Championships.

And Bale did the speculation no favours by revealing that his next career choice was going to ’cause chaos’ if he told people his plans, speaking straight after Tottenham’s end-of-season win at Leicester City 10 days ago.

But Rodon, an £11 million signing by the Lilywhites in October, claims that his Wales teammate has no intention of calling it a day.

He said to Sky Sports when asked if he’ll be calling it a day: “No chance. It’s all on Gareth. Nobody at Wales wants him anywhere near retirement. We want him as long as possible.”

Another spell at Spurs?

Tottenham reportedly have the option to keep him for another season-long loan next term.

And given his cryptic comment after beating Leicester, perhaps the Lilywhites have secretly triggered that option.

Let’s be honest, 16 goals in your first season is still a cracking return and it’s very exciting to imagine him playing under Mauricio Pochettino perhaps.

Pochettino is reportedly in talks with Daniel Levy [The Athletic] about a return to North London and if that materialises, retirement will be the furthest thing from Bale’s mind.
