Kevin Campbell has backed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to secure the transfer of PSV star and rising Dutch wonderkid, Xavi Simons.

The Arsenal legend added that if rumours are true and the 20-year-old is available for ‘£30-40 million’, then it’s a ‘no-brainer’ to secure his signature.

In the Europa League this season, Campbell spoke about how Xavi Simons ‘destroyed’ Arsenal during their knockout encounter, as he told Egal Talks Football.

Well, could the player that has traded the same training pitch as Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe now take to the Emirates Stadium turf?

There is interest from Arsenal’s side in the versatile forward, but no concrete offer has been put on the table for a player that has taken Dutch football by storm this term.

Either way, with Mikel Arteta keen to bulk up his squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League, Campbell wants Simons on board.

“I like him,” said Campbell. “I thought he has been excellent for PSV. When I watched him against Arsenal. I thought he destroyed us.

“But he’s not that type of player that he’s not a striker, but he can operate in and around. He can operate as a forward. Sometimes you have got to be able to change it up.

“He will cost a lot of money. Who would you prefer? Balogun? Or Simons? You might need to sell Balogun to add extra funds and then get a Simons.

“PSV made a lot of money last year by selling players. If he’s costing £30-40 million, then I think it’s a no-brainer, you have to try and sign him – if this guy is available, then this is someone who you have to secure.”

Xavi Simons’ transfer fee

If the rumours are true and Simons isn’t worth more than ‘£40 million, then he is worth taking a punt on, especially given what he is producing at his age.

This guy is younger than Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, yet he smashed 19 goals in the Eredivisie this season, including supplying nine assists.

There is serious talent in his boots, as well as maturity and raw leadership skills that could be blossomed into bigger and better things.
