Sam Allardyce has backed Frank Lampard to be Newcastle United’s next manager, as he told talkSPORT on Thursday morning.
The survival expert stated that there is ‘no better place’ for Lampard to be than in the Newcastle hotseat, especially if he is backed by the powers that be at the top.
The 43-year-old is currently out-of-work and hasn’t been in the dugout since being sacked by Chelsea last year.
Many felt, at the time, that it was a harsh call to sack the Englishman, but given that the club lifted the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel in May, it proved to be a genius move.
Newcastle are searching for their own genius move themselves and they were dealt a blow yesterday when Unai Emery snubbed the chance to join them.
But Allardyce, who has taken to the St James’ Park dugout before, put Lampard’s name forward as an option.
“If I was Frank, I would jump at the chance,” said Allardyce. “He’s rested. He’s gained the experience at Derby and Chelsea.
“His first season at Chelsea was brilliant under very, very tight restrictions and got them into the Champions League.
“Then, when they spent that bit of money, they didn’t tell and boom he’s gone. I think he needs to fight back.
“If the club has got money, then there’s no better place for Frank than to take Newcastle on I would say. And it would nice to see a British manager take charge, anyway.”

The issue with what Lampard did at Chelsea is that he was outstanding in his first campaign, when there were restrictions in place, in regards to FFP.
The three-time Premier League winner did very well to bring through the younger players, with many of them thriving now, from Mason Mount to Reece James.
But when he had a load of cash to spend last summer, he struggled to gel everything together and failed to get the best out of the big-money summer signings.
In truth, spending big will probably be the main topic in the North East, so if Lampard has previously proven that he has had issues doing that before, then he’s not going to exactly change at Newcastle, is he?
Perhaps staying away from Lampard is the best option, from Newcastle’s perspective.
