Leeds United are seemingly in the hunt to re-sign Ronaldo Vieira from Sampdoria.

In 2018, the talented midfielder left then-Championship side Leeds for Serie A, and despite the fact that the club had to ‘sacrifice’ him to bing in money for new signings [BBC Sport], he still expressed his gratitude and love to the-now Premier League side.

Months after leaving, Vieira told FourFourTwo that he ‘no bad feelings’ towards the Yorkshire side and he is ‘still supporting them now’.

“The move was quite quick,” Vieira said. “They just came with an offer and that’s what happens – when the club receives a good offer, they accept it. I was willing and open to it, so everything went smoothly. I have no bad feelings about Leeds.

“I’m grateful for what they’ve done for me, and I think I improved a lot as a player and became more mature there, so I thank them. I’m still supporting them now.”

Well, Italian outlet II Secolo XIX have claimed that Leeds scouted their former player in July, and along with a host of Premier League clubs such as Everton, Spurs and Southampton, they want to bring him back to Elland Road this summer.

It has to be questioned, if Marcelo Bielsa can help Kalvin Phillips become an England international then what would he be able to do with Vieira’s talents? It could be argued that the energetic midfielder was perhaps the more talented player from the two when they were both coming through.

Not only that, he would be welcomed back with open arms by those in Yorkshire and he would hold an advantage from those who are also coming from abroad because he understands the club, which is very important, especially if you playing for a club like Leeds.

Leeds United’s record transfers

  1. Rodrigo (2020)

    £26 million

  2. Raphinha

    £21 million (2020)

  3. Rio Ferdinand (2000)

    £18 million

  4. Diego Llorente (2020)

    £18 million

  5. Helder Costa (2020)

    £16 million

There’s no doubt that Phillips is Bielsa’s main man in the middle of the park, but a partnership with the Englishmen would excite the Elland Road faithful.

Vieira has natural talents in his boots and with that pure ability, he can become any type of midfielder he wants, in the long run, it’s just a case of someone coaching him to that level.

And a certain Bielsa and his coaching staff can no doubt do that.
