The Swans striker came off the bench to score twice, beating Crystal Palace in a nine-goal thriller on Saturday.
Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente has reflected on what he describes as a ‘crazy match’, following the Swans’ 5-4 Premier League win at the Liberty Stadium against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Speaking to the the club’s official website, the Spaniard spoke of an amazing nine-goal thriller in South Wales and what he hopes will be the spark to give him and his side a huge boost in confidence.
In Bob Bradley’s first league win since taking the reins at Swansea, his side twice came from behind, as two stoppage-time goals from Llorente snatched all three points.
After Wilfried Zaha gave the vistors the lead, Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised, before two goals from Leroy Fer after the hour mark looked to have decided matters.
After a dramatic last 25 minutes however, Alan Pardew’s men levelled through James Tomkins and a Jack Cork own goal. Christian Benteke turned the game on its head to give the Eagles a 4-3 lead with six minutes left, before Llorente’s late heroics.
Since making the switch from La Liga side Sevilla in the summer, the 31-year-old has struggled to adapt to life in the English top flight.
Having now scored three goals this campaign, Llorente now hopes the injury problems at his new club are behind him, as the forward looks to propel Swansea up the table and away from trouble.
Llorente told Swanseacity.net: “It was an amazing game, I couldn’t believe it when they turned the game around, but this is football.
“It’s an incredible sensation for us to go and win like we did. They went ahead so late but we were able to score two more to win. It’s amazing.”
The former Juventus and Athletic Bilbao striker has suffered a tough few years since his prolific form in the Basque country for Bilbao.
In 262 appearances, the former Spanish international scored 85 goals for Los Leones. More recently however, after a successful first season in Turin, Llorente fell down the pecking order behind Carlos Tevez and Paulo Dybala.
Returning to Spain with Sevilla last term, the striker scored just four times in 23 games.
With the loss of Andre Ayew to West Ham United, boss Francesco Guidolin recruited Llorente but he scored just once under the Italian before his dismissal in October.
Having initially dropped to the bench under Bradley, could Llorente’s brace could now prompt an upturn in fortunes for the Spanish forward? The striker certainly hopes so.
“We are very, very happy,” Llorente stated. “I am happy to score the goals and help my team to win the match.
“It’s a crazy match, and it’s very important for us. We need confidence and I think this match will help us a lot.
“It’s also very important for me, for my confidence, to score these goals. Before my injury I scored against Manchester City and I was feeling good.”
