Aston Villa’s Andre Green vows to improve under Steve Bruce

The winger made a cameo appearance in Villa’s 1-0 derby defeat to Wolves on Saturday.

Aston Villa starlet Andre Green has vowed to improve under Steve Bruce, following his manager’s praise for him during their 1-0 derby loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

The winger told club’s official website he and the team were obviously disappointed to lose to rivals Birmingham rivals Wolves, but that he was glad personally to come on and get a chance to rectify things.

In his eighth appearance this term, Green made a cameo appearance against Paul Lambert’s men for the last 25 minutes, but failed to help the Villans take a point back to Villa Park.

His performance nevertheless earned the praises of Bruce, with Green now confident that if he gets his head down and works hard could become a regular fixture for Villa.

Green told avfc.co.uk: “The manager has been very positive with me since he’s come in. I know that if I train well, I will be involved with the squad. There’s no grey area with him on that – if you’re in form you’ll be involved.

“His comments after the game have given me an added boost. I am determined to keep improving and be an important player for him as we look to move up the table quickly.”

Green, 18, a member of the Aston Villas youth set up since the age of eight, has also played for the England U16s, 17s and now U18s.

The arrival of Steve Bruce has seen the teen given a chance to push for a regular place of the substitutes bench. Whilst he is yet to score a senior goal for club or country, the signs are good for the Villa man.

Andre Green also expressed his frustration at the loss at the weekend – the club’s second Sky Bet Championship defeat on the bounce.

The winger however says focus now switches to their next two home games, against Preston North End on Saturday followed by the visit of Bristol City a week later.

“From a team perspective, we have two home matches coming up now and we’re determined to get back on track”, said Green.

He added, “It will be tough but six points must be the aim over the next two weekends.”
