The Tottenham Hotspur winger’s loan move to Burnley is a step in the right direction.

Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make any signings during this month’s transfer window, but one deal involving the club could represent a significant step in the right direction.

Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has joined Burnley on loan for the remainder of the season, with the winger eager to receive regular playing time for Sean Dyche’s side having been on the periphery of proceedings at Tottenham.

Enabling N’Koudou to continue to develop in England is a positive move for Tottenham as it will give the prospect a chance to prove himself in the Premier League, meaning he would be ready to make a major impact for his parent club next season if he does impress while on loan.

On many occasions in recent seasons Tottenham have sent fringe players on loan to foreign clubs. Last campaign, for instance, Clinton N’Jie went on temporary transfer to Marseille, Filip Lesniak was with Slovan Liberec and Federico Fazio spent time with Roma.

It could have been tempting for Tottenham to let N’Koudou go abroad, perhaps back to France, from where he moved to Spurs for £9million in 2016 (BBC). But instead he will benefit immensely from remaining in the Premier League and gaining valuable experience in English football.

This should be seen as a blueprint for Tottenham going forwards as sending their fringe players on loan to English clubs would provide them with an ideal opportunity to assess how they are developing and gauge just how close they are to being ready to make an impact for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
