Celtic’s Nir Bitton is a man in form at the moment.
Nir Bitton has joked to The Scotsman that he is now a £50 million player for Celtic.
The Israel international continues to impress in a makeshift centre-back role for Celtic after manager Brendan Rodgers began playing him there before the domestic season started.
The 26-year-old posted another assured performance alongside Dedryck Boyata in the Hoops’ 1-0 win away to Ross County on Saturday afternoon, leaving Jozo Simunovic on the bench.
And Bitton jokes that Boyata is doing his utmost to help organise him in Celtic’s back four, quipping that his form has seen his value skyrocket.
“I told you a few weeks ago I’m a £50m player,” Bitton, a £700,000 signing in 2013, said to the Scotsman.
“No, as I said before I’m trying to do my best and still trying to learn the position.
“Dedryck is talking to me all through the game. I don’t know if he’s lost his voice by now. He’s trying to help and guide me.”
Impressing against Scottish opposition is one thing, but Rodgers’s side travel to Paris Saint-Germain – who put five past the Bhoys on matchday one of the Champions League – on Wednesday and it remains to be seen whether the Northern Irishman brings back Simunovic in place of Bitton.
If he does, it’ll be the Croat’s first game since September due to injury and Rodgers might just be taking a risk by starting him in the French capital.
