The Israel midfielder’s agent has been discussing the possibility of a move away from Parkhead.
Celtic midfielder Nir Biton’s agent says his client has received interest from the Premier League and that he will move to the English top flight next summer – for no less than £10 million, according to the Daily Express.
The 24-year-old has impressed for the Scottish champions and his agent claims Celtic have already been approached about a move away.
Biton will not leave in January, however, but it is claimed he will be on the move at the end of the current season.
He is quoted as telling Sport 5 Israeli radio station by the Express: “We have had interest in Nir from English Premier League sides.
“Celtic have been approached but right now is not the right time. The market price for him is not less than £10m. Some players in the Premier League are not as good as him and have been bought and sold for a lot more money.
“He will go to the Premier League – but in the summer, not in January. Nir currently still has a lot of achieve with Celtic and he has a contract in Scotland up until 2020.”
Should any move take place, it will demonstrate further proof of Celtic’s shrewd profit-making on talented players.
That kind of strategy has already found success with the likes of Victor Wanyama, Fraser Forster and more.
But it doesn’t do Celtic’s first team any favours, of course. Selling Virgil van Dijk brought in a profit this summer but has ultimately cost them. Several similar sales have all led to the Bhoys being knocked out in the Europa League group stage (although poor performances from their existing squad can also account for that).
Biton may not be going anywhere, though, as it could all just be a ploy from his agent.
