Liverpool, Spurs and West Brom may be glad they didn’t sign Gent’s Moses Simon.

A number of forwards were linked with Liverpool, Tottenham and West Bromwich Albion over the summer, with all three boosting their forward lines.

Liverpool snapped up ex-Chelsea duo Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, Spurs raided Swansea City to land Fernando Llorente on deadline day, whilst West Brom brought in Jay Rodriguez from Southampton.

One player who was linked with all three teams was Gent’s Moses Simon, with the Daily Mail reporting in July that the trio had all been tracking the Nigerian, whilst Brighton and Hove Albion had a bid rejected.

A 22-year-old forward who hit five goals and seven assists in all competitions last season, Simon has been praised for his pace and movement, offering versatility in attack as he can play out wide or up front.

However, since that interest from Premier League clubs, Simon has struggled for Gent, and he is now in the midst of a major goal drought having played nine games in all competitions this term without finding the net.

Whilst Simon has never been particularly prolific, with his best season for Gent coming with seven goals in 20 games since signing from Trencin in 2015, his lack of goals in Belgium this term may just put off those suitors.

With all three clubs signing other forwards over the summer, Simon’s dream move to a top Premier League club appears to be dwindling, unless he can spark a miraculous turnaround in goalscoring form between now and January.

Brighton are still in the market for a striker and could yet return for Simon, but any move from Liverpool or Spurs now looks hugely unlikely as he struggles to find the net this season.
