Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have conceded just once this summer.

Nikola Katic of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Hearts at Ibrox Stadium on October 7, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Nikola Katic has admitted to The Scottish Herald that he’s to blame for Rangers not finishing off the summer with a 100% defensive record.

The Gers beat Derby County 1-0 at Ibrox on Sunday for what was their final pre-season friendly before their Scottish Premiership opener away to Kilmarnock next weekend.

In doing so, Rangers also ensured that they have just conceded once from seven friendlies and Europa League qualifiers over the past month.

That came in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers in Glasgow last week, with the Croatian centre-back mostly to blame for the concession that afternoon.

On the flip side, Katic’s goal against the Rams means that Steven Gerrard’s side have now found the net 23 times in all of their summer games, something that the 22-year-old – a £2 million signing 12 months ago [The Scottish Sun] – is taking heart from.

He told The Scottish Herald: “The one goal [we conceded] was my mistake! So we should have finished pre-season without conceding any goals. But it has been any good. We have scored 23 goals and it was good.”

Scoring 23 and conceding just once is a stunning record for Rangers so far.

Yes, they’ve been facing a bit of fodder, but Gerrard’s side have also come up against some top teams like Derby and Marseille and yet they haven’t been fazed in the slightest.

The pressure is on Gerrard to stop Celtic from winning a ninth successive Premiership title this season and, going by their pre-season form, that’s very possible.

Nikola Katic of Rangers controls the ball during the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Play Off match between Rangers and FC Ufa at Ibrox Stadium on August 23, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
