Nikola Katic on deal he made with Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were beaten by Spartak Moscow last night.

Glasgow Rangers summer signing Nikola Katic said to the club’s official website that all of the Ibrox side’s defenders made a deal with Steven Gerrard that they would keep a clean sheet in the second-half against Spartak Moscow yesterday, but they failed to stick to it.

Rangers went into the break in Russia with a 3-2 lead, after what was a crazy first-half.

Rangers had looked hugely dangerous going forward, but they let themselves down with some cheap errors at the back.

Gerrard was clearly keen to make sure his side tightened up in the second half, but the defenders failed to live up to their promise.

Rangers conceded another two goals in the second-half, as they slipped to their first European defeat of the season.

And Katic said: “We had a deal at half-time to try and take a clean sheet from the second half, but we lost two goals in two minutes and I don’t know what to say about that.”

Despite the painful defeat there were positives to take from Rangers’ performance in Russia.

Gerrard’s side competed well against a Spartak side who are always challenging hosts, and if they can continue to attack in such a manner, then they will be a huge threat in Scotland.
