Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly interested in signing the Croatian.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be looking to bring in another forward player this summer, with Harry Kane expected to be out for around another six weeks, and Heung-Min Son away on international duty.

According to a report from Spanish publication Marca, one of the Argentine’s potential targets is Atletico Madrid hitman Nikola Kalinić, but the 31-year-old would be a really underwhelming signing for Spurs.

The Croatian is very much a journeyman striker, having already played for eight clubs, and he is far from prolific, with just 143 goals to his name in 395 career appearances.

Kalinić is also entering the twilight years of his career, and it is notoriously difficult for player over 30 to adapt to the ferocious pace of the Premier League.

He doesn’t possess any kind of real pace, and he’s not ideally suited to Tottenham’s playing style either.

The 31-year-old acts very much as a target man type striker, and with Pochettino’s side well-renowned for their patient build-up play, it certainly doesn’t seem to be a match made in heaven.

Spurs obviously need more competition in the attacking department, but Poch would surely be better served in buying a younger player, with attributes more suited to his preferred playing style.

The Argentine might even decide not to sign anyone, and considering Kalinić’s track record and style of play, there is no need for Tottenham to panic by bringing in a striker who doesn’t actually meet their high standards.
