Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has brought nine players to Ibrox, and one of them gushed over the style of play.
Niko Kranjcar has admitted via The Sunday Post that he has been left pleasantly surprised by Rangers’ style of play under manager Mark Warburton.
Rangers won the Scottish Championship under Warburton last season to seal their Premiership return after a four-year absence from the big time in Scotland.
But they did so playing a certain brand of football which yielded results and admirers, with the Gers winning the division by 11 points in the end.
It’s difficult to tell whether or not their style will be effective in the top flight, but the early signs are positive after Rangers netted 10 and conceded none in their four League Cup outings so far – all four coming in the space of nine days.
Kranjcar, of course, knows a thing or two about attractive football after playing over 80 international matches for Croatia; many of which came under current West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic.
But the 31-year-old admits he’s “really impressed” to see Warburton adopt a similar philosophy at Rangers.
“Our style of play has surprised me,” he admitted via The Sunday Post. “I knew about it, I’d read about it. I knew about how the manager likes to play football.
“But I’ve been really impressed, and I believe it’s the way the game should be played. In 90% of the games I played for Croatia, we were the team that had most possession. But it wasn’t really structured the way it is here.
“It is a real breath of fresh air and I am really enjoying coming to training every single day. I am honoured and blessed. It is a joy to be at this football club.”
Kranjcar is arguably the most high profile of all of Rangers’ nine summer signings, having forged out such a successful international career and played Champions League football with Tottenham Hotspur in the past.
